Would you like to blog here (and have a part in making a small miracle (perhaps?)? I figure that, while my rantings are of course witty, meaningful and insightful, a little help from my friends wouldn't go amiss.

So, my dear Toasties - please consider extending your communications skills and become a bonafide blogger. Just leave a comment saying 'I can make miracles!'.

    I like being called Toasties!

Toasties join clubs and speak up. I do not think Toasties would have any hesitation in becoming bloggers. They would write with more honesty if they're not honest enough on their feet.

I expect to find sparks of humour, or trails of soul-searching here, without having to wait for two weeks until another Toastmasters meeting.

    Together, we can make miracles.

Toastmasters are not afraid to speak (or even if they are they soon acquire the skills to hide it from their audience ;-)) and am sure they'll not be afraid to blog too.

I wish this blog a great success and look forward to interesting articles and sharings from fellow toasties.

I can make a difference but TOGETHER we can make miracles.

Great idea to have a blog , now we start talking about some issues.

One of the things that bugs me is that we are too kind in giving evaluations and seldom fail people. We also seem to have no universal standard. I have seen CTM's who really should not be , they have still not mastered the basics and have only got a CTM because they have completed 10 speeches , but evalauators have not asked them to repeat.
I am perhaps a old speaker , a member for 26 years I remember having to repeat one speech 4 times before i could continue.

We should adapt a HK Education English exam approach to TM.
Grade people against the whole population of TM's in HK. Maybe for a #10 speech its judged by speakers from other clubs .
Well thats my ramble , what do you think ?

Brian, they just changed the English & Chinese exam practice! Now, all students are graded based on descriptors and assigned a Level!

But, I digress. I agree. I saw one member in my club asked to repeat once.

It's complicated by the club's goals to achieve DCP points.

    What do others think?

Hey, well done! It's a fabulous idea to use blogs as the communication platform. Guess what!? I've also set up a blog for my home club a few days back- Oasis TM. And we shall announce the site later. So i'm delighted to know that great minds think alike (and act at the same time).

I sometimes also feel puzzled by the overly generous evaluations...

Anyways, i am sure this blog is gonna be a great success!

In Toastmasters we give positive feelback, and remember we are not teacher, we are here to give the speaker our own feeling about the speech. We will tell them where need to improve and how, is the speaker who will decide whether he or she need to do it again or not. At the end of the day is the speaker who will benefit from the program and not the title.

katy, i did think about a blog for my club, but decided against being exclusive. Also, IMO, to make it work, you need a community of more than 50-60 (our club's membership - and yours, I believe!).
