HK to join District 85 from 2009/10
"Proposal A" was passed by a two-thirds majority vote at the Annual Business Meeting held this morning at the TI Convention 2009.
Despite some intense resistance, notably from Rich Hopkins in the US, the proposal passed.
This brings significant changes to Hong Kong Toastmasters.
Starting 2009/10, there shall be 14 Regions worldwide, meaning that HK will no longer will be within a "District not assigned to a Region" (DNAR).
Also, Hong Kong and Macau, starting 1 July 2010, will be part of District 85, with the existing 85 clubs in mainland China, to become Greater China; i.e. mainland China, Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR.
Sean Lin, Division H Governor says:
"I have met and briefly discussed the matter with the delegates from District 85, including their current District Governor Rebecca Hong, LGET Yingdan, LGM Ligo and Past District Governor Victor. Looking forward to a good transition and benefits to every member in Hong Kong."
