Lance Miller's Life Force
We were privileged to have Lance Miller stop by Hong Kong this past Monday. On his way back from a convention in Shenzhen, Lance delivered a workshop entitled 'Find your Voice' to over 100 Toastmasters at Polytechnic University.
One point struck me. Where other speakers talk about 'passion', Lance talks about 'Life Force'. He describes it in this way:
Life force is the power, sincerity, conviction, humility and passion you can imbue into your words. I like that.
When you have the energy to deliver this life force as if your life depended on it, the rest will flow. Imagine your building is on fire. With what kind of energy will you deliver "Get out! The building's on fire" to your family? That's the kind of energy we need in our speeches.
When he achieve that, the mechanics of the speech such as vocal variety and gestures will take care of themselves, provided we have invested 80% of our time preparing them.
What do you think?
